MICHAEL GALINDO
Violin Teacher

Michael Galindo chose the violin at age nine and quickly found my place sitting first chair in the Glendale Unified School District Orchestra.   I have been a student of the violin for approximately 36 years and bring the collective knowledge of acclaimed and pioneering teachers to the classroom.

My education over the years has provided me with a comprehensive understanding behind the mechanisms and techniques of playing this challenging instrument.   My teaching methods are a collection of old school discipline and new school methods.

The process of playing any instrument is a journey of discovery and involves two things: following one’s inner self in the pursuit of an idea, goal or desire, and the immediate creation of something tangible and real.  Together they are morphed into an outward reflection of personal expression and become an extension of one’s self.

Key to understanding the violin is that not all students share the same physical attributes which lead to any singular teaching method.  The most effective approach to learning the violin is by using simple associations which are relatable to the student in a meaningful way.

My classical training touches other areas of music which include blues, blue grass, and jazz.  Public performances include private parties, events and weddings.  Most recent have been with Harpist Christine Holvick, soloist and faculty member Westmont College and Skyler Stonestreet, Santa Barbara singer/songwriter.

My teachers include:

Michelle Makarski – internationally acclaimed violinist and recording artist, winner of the Carnegie Hall International American Music Competition, appearance Lincoln Center’s Great Performers Series.

Lilla Kalman – American and European soloist w/ Berlin Philharmonic, student of Jeno Hubay.

Stefan Krayk – UCSB Faculty member, Concertmaster (past), and co-founder of Santa Barbara Symphony.

James Sittlerly, Ph.D. – arranger/producer/composer, faculty member Los Angeles Harbor College.

Outside projects have included: Stage Manager/Assistant Librarian with the Santa Barbara Symphony under the Music Direction of Ronald Ondrejka and Frank Collura, and playing Jazz Combo Workshop with director Kim Collins.
